Nighthawks over Franklin
The late-August evening flight came right on schedule — a couple hundred Common Nighthawks working south down the Pemigewasset in forty minutes.

The goldfinches are just getting started
While every other songbird in the yard is done and moulting, the goldfinches are carrying nest material. A note on why they wait.

Bicknell's at dawn on the Auto Road
Up before three to be in the krummholz at first light. Two singing Bicknell's Thrushes, a Swainson's for contrast, and pipits on the cone.

Warbler morning at Odiorne
A northwest wind overnight, then a drop. Fourteen warbler species before nine a.m. in the shrub thickets by the science center.
